Just throw it all in the blender and give it a whirl.
Easy Tomato Salsa
1 can crushed tomatoes
1 can fire-roasted diced tomatoes
1 sm.-md. bunch cilantro
2-3 cloves fresh garlic
1 t. cumin powder
1/2 t. sugar, optional
1 serrano pepper (with seeds)
Lime juice to taste
Salt to taste
Black pepper to taste (gives it a nice twist and deeper flavor)
This recipe is a lot like mine only I like to use the canned tomatoes with green chilies. Never thought to add extra fresh chili, though.
Oh yea! The fresh chile pumps it up a notch and hides some of the canned flavor. It’s yum!
amy; tried this last night and must say: it definitely passed the test!!! verrry nice indeed – thanks amigo -
Nice! You’re welcome! Thanks for trying and for your feedback. So glad you enjoyed!
I am the anti-sugar
I will try this recipe without, 1/2 tblspn can’t impact the taste that much
To be honest, I usually make mine w/o sugar also, but I do think it can bring out the flavors a little. And, no, it won’t make a lot of difference. Enjoy!

I must ask: Have you ever canned salsa before? I just do not trust most recipes because there is way too much vinegar in the recipe! Your thoughts?
No, I have not! It looks like we will have plenty of tomatoes for canned salsa this year though. My cousin actually cans every year and they do not add vinegar because of the acid in the tomatoes. You could possibly add enough lime juice to help with the acid for canning and I never add vinegar to my salsa. Just don’t like the flavor.
